About This Quiz

The Philadelphia Flyers are an American professional ice hockey team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).
They have a training facility located in Voorhees, New Jersey, and a primary practice facility located in the Wells Fargo Center, in Philadelphia.
Although the team isn’t going through a good time right now, this quiz trivia will focus mostly on the good parts of the Flyers’ history.

The history of the team starts when the vice-president of the Philadelphia Eagles, Ed Snider, visited a basketball game at the Boston Garden. He saw a big crowd buying tickets for the Boston Bruins game, which was one of the worst teams at the time.

When Snider learned that the NHL was expanding from six teams to twelve, he started planning a new hockey team arena for Philadelphia. His group, founded by Eagles owner Jerry Wolman, was the choice of the NHL in 1966. As a fan of the University of Texas at Austin, Bill Putnam, one of the partners, chose the colors orange and black for their logo. The name of the team was a suggestion of Snider’s sister, who liked the way the city name sounded. Mel Richmann Inc., a New York advertising agency, created the logo using an orange disc and four wings from a “P” letter.

The Philadelphia Flyers had a few years of mediocrity before becoming one of the strongest teams in the NHL in the 1972-73 season. Also referred as the “Broad Street Bullies” for their physical and violent game. Led by goalkeeper Bernie Parent, striker Bobby Clarke, and the defender Dave Schultz, the Flyers made history. They were the first expansion team of the NHL to win the Stanley Cup in 1973 by defeating the Boston Bruins. In 1974, the Flyers won the second championship over the Buffalo Sabers, but they lost the final against the Montreal Canadiens in 1975, mostly because of an injury of Bernie Parent.

Over history, the fans of the Philadelphia flyers sure proven they are unique in the sport! Even when the Flyers have lost the last six Stanley Cup Finals series they have played, the fans have stood by their team. Washington and Boston’s fans get mocked by them for only attending games when their teams perform well, while the Flyers devotees go to every game, good and bad. They may be loud, obnoxious, rude, or scary, but Flyers fans are there at the top when we think about a sports passion! Are you one of them? Take this quiz and find out now!
