About This Quiz

Chicago Blackhawks is one of the most popular professional ice hockey teams in Chicago and surely deserved a trivia based on their incredible history. Chicago is one of the six original teams that made up the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1942 until the 1967 expansion. They have six Stanley Cup titles.

It was established in 1926 by a Chicago businessman named Frederic McLaughlin, who was awarded a franchise by the NHL to be the first US franchise. They moved to Chicago Stadium in 1929, which at the time was the largest indoor sports stadium in the world. This stadium served as their home until 1994.

Originally known as the Black Hawks, the team had some early success as the team won the Stanley Cup in the 1933–34 and 1937–38 seasons. That season’s Stanley Cup title was notable because the Hawks finished the regular season with a 14-25 record- the poorest record of any team to win the title. Montreal Canadiens defeated the Black Hawks in four games in 1943-44 to win the Stanley Cup. Soon they reached the lowest point in the team’s history, finishing all but two seasons between 1946-47 and 1956-57 at the bottom of the NHL standings.

During the 1960s, Chicago enjoyed a period of rebirth, seeing teams with future Hall of Fame members Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Glen Hall, and Pierre Pilote make it in three Stanley Cup finals. The team won the third title in the franchise with an overwhelming victory over the Detroit Red Wings to end the 1960-61 season.

During the 1969-70 season, the franchise also played 28 consecutive playoff games, the second-longest postseason streak in NHL history. Although they have advanced to three Stanley Cup finals in these 28 years, the team has lost in each final. Although they did not win the Stanley Cup, the streak had some highlights.

A change in team management and a experienced staff movements that infused the team’s cast with young talent resulted in the Blackhawks returning to the playoffs. Following a five-season absence from the playoffs in 2008-09, the team beat Philadelphia in six games to end its 49-year championship drought.

In 2012–13, the Blackhawks advanced to the Stanley Cup finals during the postseason, notably defeating rival Red Wings along the way in a series of seven conference semifinals that Chicago lost three games to one. In the particularly dramatic finals, the Blackhawks defeated Boston Bruins in six games. Did you know all this history? Then you are an amazing fan! Why don’t you try our special Blackhawks quiz?
