About This Quiz
The St. Louis Blues are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL), based in St. Louis, Missouri. The Blues were one of the six teams added to the league in the 1967 expansion, along with the Minnesota North Stars, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and California Seals. This quiz is especially for those fans who support the team although the team’s performance hasn’t been good for most of its history. You are a great fan!
During the expansion, St. Louis was the last team to join the league. On the insistence of the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis was the choice instead of Baltimore. The Chicago Wirtz family owned the Blackhawks, which controlled the St. Louis Arena at the time. The first owners of the team were Sid Salomon Jr., his son, Sid Salomon III, and Robert L. Wolfson, who got the franchises in 1966. Several million dollars was the investment to renovating the 38-year-old arena by Sid Salomon III.
Since 1994, the Blues have played at the Enterprise Center. This arena was previously called the Savvis Center, the Kiel Center, and the Scottrade Center. St. Louis’s original owners had to buy the St. Louis Arena as a condition of the 1967 NHL expansion. That is where the team played from 1967 until 1994.
From the 60s to recent times, the team didn’t manage to conquer the Stanley Cup. Meanwhile, the franchise was on the verge of financial collapse. A few factors contribute to this, but mainly the financial decisions the Salomons made when they first acquired the franchise. When the Blues’ performance began to dwindle, the Blues’ deferred contracts came due. At one point, the Salomons reduced team staff to three people.
The St. Louis Blues announced on March 17, 2011, that they were for sale. A number of key free agents signed with the team during the 2011 off-season, including Scott Nichol, Brian Elliott, Kent Huskins, Jason Arnott, and Jamie Langenbrunner. Ken Hitchcock took over as head coach on November 6, 2011. David Backes became the new team captain.
Finally, The Blues managed to win their first Stanley Cup in 2019 and outside the Original Six, they have the most Stanley Cup playoff appearances. Frequently, the franchise has struggled in the playoffs, with consecutive losses in the Stanley Cup Finals following their first three seasons. The Blues became the last active team from the 1967 expansion to win their first Stanley Cup.
Although St. Louis took a long time to get a Stanley Cup, it is one of the most successful NHL teams in terms of attendance. A lack of playoffs in 2009–10 didn’t stop the Blues from selling out 34 of 40 home games, placing them seventh in the NHL in attendance. In 2010–11, the team sold out every home game. Their fans are really something else. You must be really enthusiastic about the Blues, test your passion with our quiz now!
